📍 From Parking, Egypt
Colossi of Memnon and the parking lot in Al Bairat, Egypt is an archeological site featuring two giant statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty. The site is also known as the Memnonium and marked the entrance to the Temple of Amenhotep III. Dating back to around 1350 BC, each colossus is made from blocks of quartzite and granite, and stands over 18 metres tall. Both the statues contain inscriptions which are the earliest form of recorded ancient Egyptian speech. The parking lot is nearby the entrance of the site and the only access for visitor vehicles and buses. The majority of the shrine structure is not accessible for visitors, but the Colossi of Memnon, the Parking and the big mounds of stones remain. Entrance to the site is included with the Cairo Museum ticket.
