The Colonne de la Déesse is a towering memorial located in Lille, France. It was built in honor of the leaders of the French Revolution and commemorates the reign of the goddess Athena over the world, just as they were considered to be heroes during their period of the Revolution. The Column stands at 37 meters tall and the statue of Athena atop it is 6.25 meters tall, making it an impressive sight to see. Inside the column is a steel cage which supports the statue and is decorated with bas reliefs on the outside. This memorial was constructed by sculptor Jules Dalou in 1876. The Colonne de la Déesse is situated in the city center near the Gare de Lille and provides an unforgettable backdrop for photos.
