📍 From Inside, Germany
Cologne Cathedral, or Kölner Dom, is one of the most impressive and awe-inspiring churches in Europe. Located in the heart of Köln, Germany, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Germany's most visited landmark. The cathedral is distinct for its Gothic architectural style and twin towers, which rise 157 meters into the sky. It was completed in 1880, after construction began in 1248. Inside the Church, visitors will find many works of art including stained-glass windows, sculptures, and the Shrine of the Three Kings. Visitors should also take the time to explore the Church’s cappella and treasury that holds many important artifacts such as a reliquary with the remains of the Magi and the Gero Cross, the oldest large crucifix north of the Alps. A climb up the south tower is well worth the effort to enjoy impressive views of the city of Köln.
