Collegiata di Santa Juliana in Santillana del Mar, Spain, is a small and stunningly beautiful 12th century Romanesque church. It is a picturesque example of a rural pilgrim church and looks relatively untouched by time. It stands out amongst the surrounding cobbled streets and timber framed buildings in the historic town of Santillana del Mar. Inside you'll find a fine stone carved choir as well as a variety of interesting frescoes painted between the 16th and 18th centuries. The most famous fresco depicts the 'Dance of Death', an image not for the faint of heart! This charming little church is well worth a visit and is a wonderful testament to the artistic brilliance of past centuries.
