📍 Italy
Colle del Nivolet is a 2,612-metre Alpine pass in Gran Paradiso National Park, on the border between Aosta Valley and Piedmont. It separates Valsavarenche from the Orco Valley, opening onto a high plateau of alpine grassland, streams and small lakes beneath rocky peaks. On the Piedmont side, the road’s tight hairpin bends overlook the reservoirs of Agnel and Serrù, creating a striking contrast between engineered curves, blue-green water and rugged mountain slopes. Beyond the pass, the gentler, lake-dotted Nivolet plateau gives the landscape a different character, with reflections and open foregrounds replacing the steep road geometry. Despite its connection to Aosta Valley, the paved approach climbs from Ceresole Reale in Piedmont; there is no through-road into Valsavarenche.
