Colchuck Lake

Colchuck Lake is one of Washington’s most picturesque and picturesquely accessible high alpine lakes. Located at the eastern base of the Enchantment Mountains in Leavenworth, the lake is accessible via a 5 mile hike. The hike gains 2040 feet of elevation, traversing through the pinemat manzanita forest, past the Colchuck Glacier and ancient glaciers sculpted pools, towards a stunning view of Colchuck Lake. The lake color changes with the seasons, from a glorious deep blue in summer to a bleak grey and white in fall. There is nothing quite like standing in the shadow of the Enchantment Peaks, while the sun is setting through the evergreens. From there, you can continue up to the Colchuck Glacier (around 7 miles) before towering granite walls come into view. The rocky ledges of Dragontail Peak beckon for a summit attempt and the possibilities seem endless.
