The CN Tower is a 1,815-foot-tall communications and observation tower in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located in the city's downtown core, the CN Tower is a signature icon of Toronto's skyline, and of Canada on the whole. The structure was the tallest free-standing structure in the world when it opened in 1976 and today still holds that record in the Western Hemisphere. While primarily functioning as a communications tower, a popular public observation deck and restaurant at the top of the tower has made it one of Canada's leading tourist attractions. The view from the observation deck offers stunning views of Toronto, Lake Ontario and the surrounding area. The tower is also a popular spot to shop and dine with several boutiques and restaurants within the tower walls.
