The Claustro del Antiguo Convento de la Merced in the city of Orihuela in Spain dates back to the mid-17th century. It was originally constructed as part of the Merced Convent, a Franciscan convent and a stronghold of baroque religious culture in the region. The Convent has since been demolished, leaving only the small cloister as a monument to its legacy. It features a hexagonal, central patio, surrounded by an arcaded passageway with fluted Ionic columns and a façade with a pointed arch entrance, decorated with a Baroque tympanum. Today, the Claustro serves as a small museum with displays dedicated to the city's history and art collection featuring local painter Antonio Pintor Calderón. The Claustro del Antiguo Convento de la Merced is a beautiful reminder of the city's historical roots and a great spot for visitors to travel back in time.
