The Claustro de la Catedral de Girona is the cloister attached to Girona Cathedral, a compact, arcaded courtyard tucked behind the cathedral in the old town. Architecturally it reads as a Romanesque ensemble whose slender paired columns and richly carved capitals provide a visual counterpoint to the cathedral’s monumental façade and wide Gothic nave. Capitals and archivolts are carved with biblical scenes, beasts and vegetal motifs that reward close framing; the cloister’s rhythmic arches create strong repeating lines for composition and the low central garden offers frontal symmetry and reflecting pools of shadow. Access sits within the cathedral precinct, reached from the cathedral or museum areas, so views are experienced as part of the ecclesiastical complex rather than as a standalone public square.
