Cidade Historica Porto Seguro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the part of Porto Seguro, Brazil that dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. The city is widely recognized and renowned for being one of the oldest cities in Latin America and being the earliest point of discovery of Brazil by Europeans. The city lays in the path of the Discovery Coast and is home to the oldest church in Latin America, the Church of Good Death, which still holds Mass twice a year. Cidade Historica's cobblestone streets, ancient baroque churches, historical monuments and several examples of colonial architecture make it a popular tourist destination. Tourists can explore some of the earliest Portuguese colonialism at the Porto Seguro Historic Site, which includes the historic residences of the governors, an old jail and an archaeological area. Other attractions are the beautiful public squares, fountains, chapels, parks and beaches. There are also some of the oldest art galleries in the region and bustling fishing, markets and dining places around the city.
