📍 Italy
The Chiostro dei Conversi di notte or Monks' Cloister at Night, is an impressive site located in the Italian region of Siena, in the province of Pontignano. Designed by and built in the 13th century, this imposing structure is one of the best preserved Gothic-era complexes in the entire country. Characterized by pointed arches, soaring buttresses and intricate carvings, the Chiostro dei Conversi is an awe-inspiring example of Gothic architecture. The original design of the cloister was to provide a place of rest and prayer for the members of the religious order who lived within its walls. Although the purpose of the cloister has changed over the centuries, it still stands tall, providing visitors with a glimpse into the past. The exterior of the building features a beautiful garden and a fountain, as well as some stunningly preserved medieval paintings. The inner courtyard, surrounded by tall windows and archways, also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
