Chinatown Gate
📍 United Kingdom
The Chinatown Gate in Greater London is a colorful and iconic landmark, located in the heart of Soho. It was installed in 1999, to mark the centenary of the first wave of Chinese migration to the UK. The Gate stretches across a road that cuts through Soho Square, with a dragon as its centerpiece and a series of archways decorated with dragons and cranes, traditional symbols of good fortune and power. Adjacent to the Gate is a red-brick terrace, home to well-established Chinatown restaurants, bakeries and convenience stores. During Chinese New Year the area is teeming with celebrants, who buy decorations, treats and gifts to mark the holiday. Chinatown is a great spot for exploring the capital's rich cultural diversity, with a range of cafes, bars and shops that cater to its Chinese-speaking population. It's an essential stop on any visit to London, not to be missed.
