Chinatown Arch, or the Friendship Archway in Washington, United States, is an iconic landmark of Chinatown in the nation's capital of Washington, D.C. The arch stands at the intersection of 7th and the H Street NW and serves as the gateway to Chinatown. The brightly colored gate was designed by architect Alfred H. Liu and was unveiled in September 1985. Apart from being a beautiful arch and colorful visual, it is also a cultural symbol that represents the Chinese-American community and the long history of Chinese in the United States. Adorned with a mosaic of Chinese characters, it also contains a 134 feet long parade of Chinese dragons, stretching across the entire length of the arch, symbolizing the strength and spirit of the Chinese people.
