The parish church of San Giovanni Battista stands in Dobbiaco Vecchia, the historic heart of Dobbiaco/Toblach in South Tyrol’s Upper Puster Valley. Rebuilt in the 18th century on the site of earlier Romanesque and Gothic churches, it is a prominent expression of Baroque architecture in the valley. Its pale façade and tall bell tower form a recognizable focal point against wooded slopes and Dolomite peaks, while the interior is distinguished by elaborate altars, stucco decoration, and frescoes by Tyrolean painter Franz Anton Zeiller. The surrounding churchyard and traditional village buildings add layers of local texture, especially in wider compositions that set the church within its Alpine landscape.
