The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista faces Piazza Libertà, one of the principal squares in Bassano del Grappa’s historic center. Medieval in origin, the church was extensively rebuilt in the eighteenth century, giving it the monumental, classically composed façade seen today. Tall columns, a triangular pediment and statues along the roofline articulate its unusually broad frontage, making it a prominent feature of the square. The open piazza allows the façade’s full width and symmetry to be seen, while the neighboring buildings place its imposing scale within the closely built town center.
