The Chiesa di San Francesco stands within Montefiore dell’Aso’s historic center, forming part of the town’s former Franciscan complex. Its brick architecture, pointed portal and restrained exterior reflect the medieval character of this hill town in southern Marche, while the adjoining convent buildings now house the Polo Museale di San Francesco. The church is closely linked to Renaissance painter Carlo Crivelli, whose celebrated Montefiore polyptych was created for the site; surviving panels are displayed in the museum complex. Brick textures, Gothic lines and the quiet convent setting give the ensemble a visual identity distinct from the surrounding lanes and ochre-toned houses.
