Chiesa di San Filippo Neri stands along Corso Cavour in Fermo’s historic centre, near Piazza del Popolo. Built for the Oratorians around the turn of the 17th century, it contrasts a restrained, unfinished brick façade with a spacious early Baroque interior articulated by side chapels, pilasters, cornices and pale stucco ornament. The strong axial view through the nave emphasizes the building’s scale and symmetry, while angled light brings out the relief of its decorative surfaces. The church is also linked to Peter Paul Rubens’s Adoration of the Shepherds, commissioned by the Oratorians for its high altar and now preserved in Fermo’s civic art gallery at Palazzo dei Priori.
