Chiesa del Gesù is a magnificent Baroque-style church in the heart of Rome. Overlooking the Pantheon, this iconic church is the first and most important Jesuit church in the world. Built by Vignola and Giacomo della Porta, its façade was finished in 1584, and is enriched with highly sculpted detail and a beautiful pair of Angels made in 1680. Inside, visitors can admire the works of Baroque masters such as Bernini, Tapinassi and Borromini. Gilded stucco provides a stunning spectacle of decoration, while the Church's stained glass windows bring an array of colors into the chamber. The inaugural processional in honour of the newly-elected Pope takes place here, and the area is also noted for its important archaeological finds.
