Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was erected in 1893 and is situated at the entrance of the Chicago River. It stands at the mouth of the river and serves as a navigational aid for boats entering and exiting the harbor. The 65 foot tall structure is a single family home and was one of only a few US lighthouses built for residence, by the US Coast Guard. Inspired by Cape Cod architecture, the lighthouse offers spectacular views of Chicago’s skyline, Navy Pier and the Lake Michigan. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the lighthouse offers weekend tours to visitors while others can view it from the lake or the nearby Promontory Point.
