📍 Russia
Cherepovets is the largest city in Russia’s Vologda Oblast, set where the Yagorba meets the Sheksna River. Its identity combines an older river settlement with one of the country’s major steelmaking centers, dominated economically and visually by the Severstal works. Along the waterfront, broad expanses of water, bridges, port infrastructure, church domes and industrial silhouettes create the city’s most distinctive contrasts. Cathedral Hill, associated with the monastery from which Cherepovets developed, offers a historical counterpoint to the vast factories and Soviet-era urban landscape.
