📍 Romania
Cheile Dâmbovicioarei is a limestone gorge near Podu Dâmboviței in Argeș County, at the southern edge of Romania’s Piatra Craiului Mountains. Carved by the Dâmbovicioara stream, a tributary of the Dâmbovița, it forms part of the karst landscape around the Rucăr–Bran corridor, where water has shaped narrow valleys and caves. A road follows the stream toward Dâmbovicioara village, and its small scale against the steep rock walls is one of the gorge’s defining visual contrasts. Pale limestone, broken by vertical cracks and weathered recesses, rises above woodland, with trees rooted on ledges. Views along the bends bring successive cliffs into overlapping layers, emphasizing the confined passage through the mountains. Nearby Dâmbovicioara Cave offers another expression of the same water-shaped limestone terrain.
