📍 From Inside, India
Chatta Chowk is the covered bazaar just inside the Red Fort’s Lahori Gate in Old Delhi. Created as part of Shah Jahan’s seventeenth-century fort complex, it supplied the Mughal court with luxury goods, including silk, jewelry and precious stones. Its roofed passage, lined with arched shop bays, reveals the commercial life within a residence built to express imperial power. Repeating arches and the receding corridor create a strong sense of depth, while today’s handicraft and souvenir stalls add color and activity to the historic interior. The passage forms part of the approach toward the Naubat Khana, the fort’s ceremonial drum house, linking the market to the formal spaces of the Mughal court.
