Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is an impressive 17th century French castle located in Maincy, France. Commissioned by Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances for Louis XIV, it outshone the Sun King's own palace and ended with Fouquet's imprisonment by the king. The estate is renowned for its display of traditional French architecture and the landscape design of André Le Nôtre. The château consists of a palace surrounded by formal gardens, and several outbuildings including an orangery, aviary, and a chapel. The gardens feature a geometrical maze, a variety of flowers, multiple water features and fountains, and a system of canals. One of the most remarkable features of the gardens is the Wentworth Water Feature, which was first designed in 1702 and contained one of the largest fountain displays of the time. Visitors can take in the beautiful views, gardens, and marvelous architecture of the castle as well as explore the museums and living spaces on guided tours.
