Château de Fougères is a majestic castle in Fougères, France, built in the 11th century. It was part of the Breton border fortress and is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe. The castle has five massive towers, surrounding a square courtyard and connected by a barbican and a system of covered galleries and drawbridges. Inside you can admire Gothic and Renaissance interiors, as well as a beautiful garden with unique sculptures. You can see many of the original features that would make up fortified castles over the years. The castle is open to visitors and offers guided tours, as well as events throughout the year. It is an impressive remnant of medieval defenses and a great place to visit if you want to learn more about the fortifications of the era.
