๐ United States
The Charles W. Cullen Memorial Bridge, commonly known as the Indian River Inlet Bridge, carries Delaware Route 1 across the channel linking Indian River Bay with the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Bethany Beach in Delaware Seashore State Park. Opened in 2012, its cable-stayed design spans the inlet without support piers in the channel, where strong tidal currents and scour challenged earlier crossings. Four pale concrete towers and fans of cables create a striking contrast with the low dunes and open coastal horizon, while blue illumination gives the bridge a distinctive nighttime appearance. The pedestrian and bicycle path along its eastern side overlooks the ocean entrance; from the inlet shores, the rock jetties provide a textured foreground beneath the sweeping span.
