Chapel Beach lies on Lake Superior within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, near Shingleton in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Its sandy shoreline forms a striking contrast with the lake’s blue-green water, wooded slopes, and sandstone cliffs. At the eastern end stands Chapel Rock, an isolated sandstone formation crowned by a pine whose exposed roots stretch across a gap to the mainland. The rock and its tree give the beach a distinctive focal point, while views along the shore reveal the scale of the surrounding cliffs. Reaching the beach overland requires a hike through the Chapel trail system rather than a drive to the water’s edge.
