Cervera del Maestrat is a small medieval hilltown in the Maestrazgo area of Castellón in eastern Spain, recognizable by its compact cluster of stone houses and a ruined castle crowning the ridge above the village. Its interest is rooted in a defensive medieval layout: narrow, winding lanes, sections of old town wall and the castle ruins that form a serrated silhouette against the sky. Photographically the town offers textural close-ups of sun-bleached limestone, carved doorways and weathered tiles, plus wide panoramas from the castle slope across dry, scrubby uplands; the bell tower and crenellated keep provide vertical lines to balance horizontal horizon shots. Streets are steep and intimate, creating strong light-and-shadow contrasts in mid-day sun and graphic compositions at low angles.
