📍 Argentina
Cerro Torre is a granite spire in the Southern Patagonian Andes, west of El Chaltén, rising above the glaciers and moraines of the Laguna Torre basin. Its slender profile and near-vertical walls distinguish it from the broader mountain masses nearby, while a distinctive mushroom of rime ice crowns the summit, built by fierce, moisture-laden winds. These rock and ice formations have made it a landmark of Patagonian mountaineering, where extreme weather is as significant a challenge as the climbing itself. Seen from Laguna Torre, the peak forms part of a jagged skyline with neighboring Torre Egger, Punta Herron and Aguja Standhardt. The lake’s muted glacial water, occasional floating ice and the crevassed surface of Glaciar Grande give the foreground a stark texture and help convey the scale of the towers beyond.
