
Cerro San Bernardo, located in Salta, Argentina is a pilgrimage site and a viewpoint located in the Calchaquin Valley. It stands at an altitude of 1800m/5900ft. and the view from the top is breathtaking. The iconic 19th century Obelisk is an impressive stone monument placed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Argentina's independence. The area is famous for its unique combination of colours, textures and shapes, with rock formations, desert-like landscapes and beautiful cactus gardens. A few small villages and tourist campsites can be found along the path to the summit, which makes this a great place for outdoor activities such as trekking and horseback riding. On clear days, you can even see the snowy summits of the Andes. Despite its altitude, the air is surprisingly pleasant and Cerro San Bernardo makes for a great day trip.
