Cerro de Siete Colores is a geological marvel located in Purmamarca, Argentina. This multicolored hill is part of the much larger Cerro de los Siete Colores, or Hill of Seven Colors, which is a series of mountains near the town of Purmamarca in the Salta Province of Northwest Argentina. Its unique splendor is attributed to the variety of sedimentary rocks formed millions of years ago that, when viewed from afar, cause it to glow in various shades, from red to yellow, to green and purple. Its high altitude (6,369 feet/ 1,941 meters) and atypical coloring makes it a truly spectacular sight to behold and a favorite of photographers. It is best accessed from the small town of Purmamarca, and visitors should plan to bring hats and other sun protection for the blazing heat of the altitude.
