Cerro de los 7 Colores, in Purmamarca, Argentina, is a unique geological formation located in the hillside of the town of Purmamarca. The multicolored hillsides are made up of deep reds, yellows, deep blues, oranges, purples and greens. The hill is a gem of the Quebrada de Purmamarca, a stunning canyon filled with blue skies, desert oases and snow capped Andean peaks. The rock formations are the result of years of erosion on the mineral-rich mountainside, with wind, rain and frost in combination with the many different minerals in the rocks creating their own unique colors. The mountain is believed to represent the various layers of the Earth; red for fire, white for air, yellow for the warm sand, green for the vegetation and black for the depths. The same landscape has inspired maps for centuries; when looking at the hill from the village, it's possible to see a map in its undulations. A must-visit, this hillside panoramic view is unlike any other and truly captures the beauty of La Quebrada de Purmamarca.
