CERN, the home of the world’s largest particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, is a place of discovery and exploration. CERN has a rich history stretching back to the 1950s and is home to the world’s largest particle accelerator, the 27-kilometre-long Large Hadron Collider (LHC). CERN is host to a wide range of open days and public tours, giving visitors the chance to explore the facility and learn about cutting-edge physics research, science and technology. Along with the public tours, CERN also offers guided visits to its experimental halls, where visitors can see and experience the technology and research going on. These visits last up to two hours and require pre-booking. At CERN, you can find the Globe of Science and Innovation, a bright white orb located in the Meyrin site. This building is a conference centre which is dedicated to scientific and technological outreach, and is visited by tens of thousands of people each year.
