The Catedrale St. Etienne, dating back to the 12th century in the French city of Bourges, is one of the most spectacular Gothic and Romanesque cathedrals in France. Its intricately decorated steeple is adorned with statues and gargoyles, while its façade is surrounded by 24 sculpted medallions. Inside, the cathedral boasts a vast array of stained-glass windows, vividly colored frescoes and three beautiful rose windows. The interior is designed in shades of pale yellow, dark red, and deep green. Walls, columns, and windows are elegantly decorated with scenes from the Bible. Another of its attractions is the 15th-century fresco “The Last Judgment,” and its magnificent pipe organ. A stroll along the paths of the cathedral’s garden is the perfect opportunity to take in its beauty from a different angle.
