📍 From Via Camillo Cavour, Italy
Cattedrale di San Vigilio anchors Piazza Duomo in Trento’s historic center, beside Palazzo Pretorio and the Torre Civica. Dedicated to the city’s patron saint, it was rebuilt from the 13th century over earlier Christian structures, combining solid Romanesque forms with Gothic details. The cathedral gained wider historical importance during the Council of Trent, when formal sessions were held here between 1545 and 1563. From the square, its pale stone walls, sculpted portals and prominent rose window contrast with the frescoed surrounding façades; wider compositions can include the Neptune Fountain, creating the layered urban scene most associated with central Trento.
