The beautiful Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista is located in the heart of Ragusa, Sicily. It is a Baroque-style basilica and a major tourist spot in the city. Construction of the Cathedral was started in 1693 and finished in 1778. The exterior of the Cathedral has an impressive twin bell towers and its interior is even more beautiful with its intricate decorations, adorned pillars and walls. The Cathedrals most noteworthy feature is its cupola, an imposing stone dome that stands out in the cityscape. Inside, visitors can admire the altar piece by the painter Pietro Novelli, as well as statues of San Giovanni Battista (John the Baptist), St. Francis and St. Rocco. There is also the cathedral’s main chapel, the Cappella della Congregazione, with its marble floor and spectacular decorations along the walls. The Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista is an impressive sight and a must-see in Ragusa.
