📍 From Inside, Italy
The magnificent cathedral of Monreale is a stunning example of Norman-Byzantine architecture. Located in the historic Sicilian town of Monreale, the cathedral was built in the 12th century by the Norman King William II and designed by the architects Wilhelm von Benevento and Enrico Martino. The majestic structure is fronted with a large façade of gleaming marble and adorned with some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world. Inside are more than 6,000 square meters of impressive mosaics depicting Biblical scenes, saints, and Old and New Testament characters. The ceiling is also exquisitely decorated with intricate carvings and colorful frescoes. Outside, the cathedral makes an even more magnificent sight, with its five elegant bell towers and lush Mediterranean gardens. Visitors are warmly welcomed to take in this impressive testament to Norman and Byzantine culture.
