Cathédrale Saint-Étienne rises in the historic center of Toul, reflecting the city’s former importance as one of the Three Bishoprics alongside Metz and Verdun. Built over several centuries, it combines a Gothic nave and choir with an elaborate Flamboyant west façade, framed by two square towers whose open upper sections give the skyline a distinctive profile. The façade rewards a close view for its dense tracery, portals and weathered pale stone, while a centered position on the square emphasizes its strong symmetry and scale. Beside the church, the Gothic cloister offers a quieter composition of pointed arcades, carved details and garden views, contrasting with the cathedral’s monumental vertical lines.
