Built in the 11th century, it is the finest example of French Gothic architecture in Europe and the town of Strasbourg’s most iconic sight. It boasts a magnificent spire reaching nearly 140 meters high, and an elaborately decorated exterior. Inside, the most impressive feature is its spectacularly intricate stained-glass windows, which were constructed in the 15th and 16th centuries. There are also many intricately carved stone sculptures and tombs to explore, including a large clock tower and archaeological crypt. The cathedral provides stunning views over Strasbourg, which can be enjoyed from its observation deck. Visitor’s can also attend daily mass inside the cathedral. On special occasions, such as Easter, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the cathedral also holds religious services and festivals. This site is a must for any trip to Strasbourg!
