Cathédrale La Major, located in the heart of Marseille is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city and a must-see. Constructed in the Gothic Revival style, this cathedral was built in the mid 19th century and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is easily recognizable due to the tall spires adorning the two-level structure. Inside the cathedral, visitors may discover a unique collection of stained-glass windows, often depicting religious scenes. The crypt holds some of the tombs of members of the previous French Royal family, including Henriette de France, daughter of King Louis XV. It is also home to the tallest pipe organ in the world. La Major is a true sight to behold, and a wonderfully tranquil place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
