The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary is located in the old town of Senj, Croatia offering magnificent views of the Adriatic sea. The building is a Lombard-inspired renaissance style cathedral, and was built in the 16th century on the remains of an old Gothic church. Its tower holds traditional thick stone walls and its ceiling is adorned with Baroque frescoes. Inside, visitors can find the tomb of Bishop Fažan, who defended the town against Turkish forces in 1547. Outside the walls, monuments and memorials dedicated to Croatian soldiers and fallen fighters who defended the town in the Croatian War of Independence can be found. This part of Croatia is the perfect place for travelers and photographers to admire the beauty of the Adriatic sea coasts and discover the rich history of the area.
