
The Cathedral of the Assumption is the main Catholic church of Gozo Island, located in Ir-Rabat Għawdex in the centre of the island. The Cathedral, which dates back to 1697, is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady and forms the main parish church of the island. It features a Baroque facade, with white limestone walls, and two bell towers flanking either side of the entrance. Inside the Cathedral, highlights include the intricately carved wooden pulpit, the gilded main altarpiece and a collection of stunning art depicting scenes from the life of Christ. Visitors can also explore the various chapels located within the Cathedral. Its various chapels were renovated in the 1950s and are considered interesting to visit. The Cathedral is an important destination for people of all faiths and is still actively used for spiritual ceremonies.
