The stunning Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo di Firenze) in Florence, Italy, is an iconic piece of architecture. Commissioned by Arnolfo di Cambio and begun in 1296, the Duomo di Firenze is an example of the Florence's impressive Gothic design, known as the “Florence style”. At the center of the cathedral, stands the massive dome, completed in 1436 and standing at over 118 meters high. Initially, the dome was constructed of sandstone and timber but was replaced with iron and brick by Brunelleschi. Outside, the walls that adorn the exterior of the cathedral are decorated with a variety of stunning sculptures. Once inside, visitors can admire the glorious stained glass windows, four massive pillars, a ten-meter marble circle, and grand rose window. A must-see for all who visit Florence.
