Located in Lecce, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Orontius is a stunning Baroque-style structure that has towered over the city since 1659. With two bell towers, statues, and intricately designed portals, the cathedral will take your breath away. The interior of the cathedral features wonderfully detailed stucco walls and altars and an ornate, marble floor with cherubs and other symbols. You'll also find a 16th century wooden crucifix located in the center of the cathedral. Visitors to the cathedral will enjoy its peaceful courtyard or, depending on the time of the year, they may even be lulled to sleep by the sounds of classical concerts that often take place outside.
