📍 From Riverside, Russia
Dominating the skyline near the Moscow River, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is a grand symbol of the Russian Orthodox Church. Originally completed in 1883 to honor Russia’s victory over Napoleon, it was demolished in 1931 under Soviet rule. Rebuilt and reopened in 2000, today's cathedral stands as the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world. Visitors can explore its ornate interior, adorned with frescoes and gilded ornamentation, and enjoy panoramic views from its observation deck. Dress modestly, as it’s an active place of worship, and keep in mind some photography restrictions. Nearby are iconic sites like the Kremlin and Red Square, making it an essential stop for any Moscow itinerary.
