La Merced is a historic church in Granada’s old center, west of Parque Central; it is distinct from the city’s cathedral beside the square. Its ornamented colonial façade adds texture to a streetscape of low buildings and tiled roofs. From the bell tower, the view opens across Granada toward the cathedral and the broad outline of Mombacho volcano, placing the church within both the city’s architecture and its volcanic landscape.
