Cathedral Gully is an eroded landscape near Domett in North Canterbury’s Hurunui district, where soft sediment has been carved by runoff into steep flutes, narrow ravines and spire-like walls. The formations resemble the buttresses and recesses of a Gothic cathedral, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding pastoral country. Side light accentuates the vertical ridges and earthy tones, while wider views show how abruptly the sculpted gully cuts into the farmland.
