The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, in Covington, United States is an architectural marvel. Built in the early 1800s, it is the first and only basilica in the entire state of Kentucky. The Romanesque-style architecture is stunning and carries a rich, colorful history. Inside, it’s designed to have the form of a ship, with its nave imitating the bow of a ship, the altar the stern and its pillars the masts. Stained glass windows, hand carved art and stunningly ornate designs throughout make it a treat for sightseeing and exploration. Visitors can also explore a nearby chapel and cemetery with monuments of past bishops. As one of the oldest and most decorated churches in America, the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption is an absolute must visit.
