The Catedral Vieja de Santa Maria de la Sede de Salamanca is an impressive example of 12th century Spanish Romanesque architecture and a stunning reminder of the medieval splendor of Salamanca, Spain. Located near the centrally located Plaza Mayor, the cathedral towers over the city, surrounded by its magnificent walls. The cathedral is also known for its unique “baroque-esque” entranceway, featuring a stunning mural of the Virgin Mary, with accompanying stone steps. Inside, visitors will be amazed by the stunningly intricate sculptures, frescoes and stained glass windows, including a series of vibrant angels. The main attraction, however, is the incredible view from the cathedral's bell tower, allowing visitors an unforgettable panoramic view of the entire city. Walking around the cathedral is also a treat, with its walls featuring a series of impressive gargoyle sculptures, depicting mythological and biblical figures.
