📍 From Mirador de la Muralla, Spain
Segovia Cathedral rises beside Plaza Mayor in the heart of the walled old city. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Fructus, the present church was begun in the 16th century after Segovia’s earlier cathedral was damaged during the Revolt of the Comuneros. Its late Gothic design is defined by flying buttresses, clustered pinnacles, tall traceried windows and an imposing bell tower, while the interior combines lofty ribbed vaults with Renaissance and Baroque chapels. The cloister was transferred from the former cathedral and preserves finely carved Gothic stonework. From Plaza Mayor, the tower and western façade dominate the urban scene; views from the eastern side reveal the layered apse, buttresses and lantern rising above Segovia’s warm-toned roofs.
