The Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación sits at the heart of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, facing the square known as Parque Colón and anchored among cobbled streets and colonial-era buildings. Erected in the early colonial period, its sober stone façade and buttressed towers mark a transitional late‑Gothic to Renaissance vocabulary introduced by Spain to the Americas. Photographically, the cathedral offers strong frontal compositions from the plaza, textural close‑ups of weathered ashlar and carved portals, and interior scenes of a long, vaulted nave punctuated by shafted light and deep shadow that emphasize scale and historic materiality.
